Still busying myself with drawing figures (by hand
or machine), I made these three mixed-media pieces,
with pages from an old copy of R.D. Laing´s
The Politics of Experience I thrifted for 50 Cent
- but refrained from reading more than one chapter...
(I kind of like his writing, though, with its
Gertrude Stein-like fondness for repetition - reminding,
too, of the late great Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard...)
Anyway, that´s why I used the pages, with female
figures from magazine photos as models, taking their
faces off, and most of their clothes, but adding some
arm muscle, for good measure...
They´re
in the shop.

I enjoy reading your blog. It is always so thoughtful and rich.
Thank you... I enjoyed a peep at yours just now + will be back...
I really love this piece you are stitching, the colors, shapes and design is very strong. I am anxious to see what you do with the birds too.
The book looks familiar to me. Maybe I have it buried somewhere in a bookcase. I think it is so true that making a quilt is so good for one's mental health. The Shelburne Museum in Vermont has, in their permanent collection, a quilt made by a veteran Civil War soldier who came home and made it because his mind was so distraught, and it helped him to slowly heal a little. The quilt is amazing.
these are all so lovely that in fact I had to have Not only on myself to keep company with Suddenly..
These are lovely; I'm sure R.D.Laing would have heartily approved!
beneath every woman's curve is a muscle...kaite
Thanks... yes, without stitching I guess my mental health would be in a sorry state by now... + I like to think R.D.L. approves... + for the fact that there is a lot of muscle in (nearly) every woman that quilt book is a wonderful proof, indeed...
