Dominant strategy...?

Went to the Art Forum Berlin yesterday (big
international art fair)...

Looking out for textile, I found...

... not much. And almost all were made by - men
(among the works shown above only the second one
is by a female artist) - isn´t that strange...

the delicate stitched one, i like the line work, with the figure in the middle.
funnily enough that last one elicited an automatic yawn from me, and another one just now as i continue to look at it! k.

Yes, exactly... the second one is by Jessica Rankin

Good point! When I did my degree, I had my eyes opened to how much of art history is 'his' story. You'd think that textile art would include more women wouldn't you?

as i look here it look more like this was curated as an art show and not a textile show, does that make sense? i know there is an overlap but the feel is wrong. i am not sue about the male female thing. is it odd?

Thanks I enjoyed seeing....the more things change the more they stay the same. It's not that men are not capable, it's just that women are so much better. There I've said it.......I sorry there weren't more women.

Underwhelmed.

It´s a contemporary art fair of course, without any focus on textile art (in the Berlin Messehallen, big area with several halls - Nazy style, but pleasant to be in...) - I found it surprising nevertheless that there were only a handfull of works with textile, and - compared to around here in the web, yes, there is a significant male overweight (in general also, as the list of contributing artists proof) - and most of them look like copycats to me (the knitting, the blue one...)

P.S. Guess what that screaming rubber mask thing costs? 15000 Euros...

15000 Eu....for a yawn!

Suppose its all art, but sometimes some of this art makes me wonder who chose it and why.....

Yes, exactly, again - especially the why leaves quite a question mark... - there were no prize tags at the fair, I saw the scream/yawn in an art magazine´s "shopping list" section...
