A clothkeeper...

As I mentioned already, I´ve been thinking of
working with old pieces of cloth, made by someone
else, unknown to me, somewhere - bringing them into
a new context that way, refreshing and keeping them...
As they can´t be found on the streets like the scraps
of handwritten paper I´m in the habit of rescuing,
I purchased some old and battered quilt fragments
via Etsy - and here´s a little piece I made for a
start...

i feel like i am always doing that, especially with all of grandma's hand me downs and thrifted finds. . celebrating them somehow and retelling their story.

That is a wonderful way of recycling. Recycling the beauty of craftwomenship.

Yes, it is, D. and E., thanks... - + you sure do that, Jude... - it just has to be more of a willful act around here, in quilt diaspora...

so delicate but with womanstrength, you have such interesting ideas. isn't the red a little out of character tho? k.

beautiful homage to the original quilters

I looked at the pics of this one in the 'shop' and it was interesting to see where some of the quilt top and the red had come from. Mum enjoyed your work also and said that she liked your imagination. k.

I´d like the curtains of time to part for just a moment, allowing a glimpse at the original quilters... + no, the red isn´t out of character, it´s sea-so-nal - + say hello from me to Mum...;)

It's a pity that all those "old" quilters don't see what honourful pieces you made with their scraps!
(Love the "Wäscheknöpfe" !!)

Lovely stitching and a nice way to restore something that might otherwise be lost.

your beautiful being

arrived today, so delicate

and spare, I can see why it was so

hard to part with him.

He sits overlooking my sewing machine...

glad you are making more.

Love that you are rescuing battered fragments of old and worn quilts.

I´ve taken that bag of fragments out several times in the meantime, looking at them - they´re worn to almost nothing mostly, discoloured + stained, pathetic really - but that´s what´s so touching about them... - glad he/she/it arrived safely, Denise (yes, more swaps)...

so beautiful and soft looking. imagining all who touched and stayed warm with the cloths. a time capsule maybe. :)
