Miles and tiles...

I´ve been enjoying some long distance sewing lately...

This is a piece I call "Morgen" (German for morning as
well as tomorrow) - there´s a scrap of an old book in
it with that word.
It shows handwritten (only partly visible now) and machine
written words in English and German I improvised around
that word "Morgen"...

And I made three mixed-media pictures on small, tile
like canvases which I also covered with improvised
text fragments before attaching the layers of cotton
and paper with the drawings, and so partly hiding
the words again...

"Pleasure" this one is called - and that playing with
words is a pleasant thing indeed. Hiding some of the
meaning (if there ever was...) seems to give things
an additional breathing and thinking space (or so I
hope...)

playing with words as you do gives the viewer space to roam and invites one to connect the dots.

each piece is quite wonderful
there is something appealing and soothing about a few colors that are subtle

if ever there were a place to "be" in
order to experience peacefulness . . .
that place is "here." really.
love the morgen . . .
your flickr page works as
a morning mantra for me.

They are all so beautiful. I really like the small tiles, especially the birdy one. But I have a thing with birds at the moment, and I can't work out why.

the button/buttonhole band in Morgen is wonderful - opening and closing. and the soft, muted colours are restful and quiet.

I like the hint of blue tying the 3 canvases together and the gentle drawings.

Very seldom do I use words in my work..I find it hard to make them belong. Yours are always just right.

Hey, thanks for your kind comments... - yes, words can easily be too close to the object, or to far away from it, or too obtrusive/instructive - so I feel good with hiding part of them - the same with poems I guess, the more room to roam + breathe, the better... - and I´ll definiely make more "tiles", they have a weight + firmness to them that is, well, a Pleasure...

love the palette...
your free form stitching is amazing.. I just love my pincushion though i can't bear to unwrap it in all its loveliness so it has not been very functional for pins or voodoo curses but quite lovely to admire...
