Una pumpa...

Here´s a rare sighting of guerilla knitting - at least
for the part of town where I live, there might be more
elsewhere...

A bit droll, perhaps...

After I´d taken the photos, a group of tourists came
by, stopping at the pump and, ignoring the knit,
shouting "una pumpa, una pumpa..." with delight,
starting to pump away, wasting water...

No, that´s not them. It´s a photo of some other
street pump enthusiasts I happened to find today
while rummaging through my mess. Strange coincidence -
didn´t even know I had it. It´s one of a few loose
book pages, so I can´t say who made the photo and when,
1920s or 30s I guess...

That reminds me of a story BSP told me about a new client from Russia they had invited to attend a conference who was staying in the suite next door. The thing she was most impressed by was the tub with water jets - and had a hard time understanding that it was all for her.

BSP showed her how to work the tub, and long into the night BSP heard her giggling and splashing.

I'm sure she was squealing the Russain equivalent "Una hot tub, una hot tub!"

(I guess in some cultures, the idea of having a hot tub or even a free water pump is so wasteful or inconceivable that they think we aren't concerned about wasting water. And really, now that I think about it - who could blame them!?)

I awlays get offended when I see people cleaning up leaves on their sidewalks by spraying water at them. to them and users of petroleum leaf blowers...you should be in jail! Or at least subject to fines.

Well, found photos are always better than selfmade ones - old ones anyways..;) - thanks for that story, Kit, and your reflections, when you think somewhere people have to walk for miles for a drop of water - but who´s BSP...? - Susan, you´re absolutely right...!

Una knitta, Una knitta - i'd be shouting and ignoring the pump.
guerilla knitting, yarn bombing, graffiti yarn, whatever - it's my latest obsession and i'm collating a number of them so yours will go into the mix as well. thankyou.

Una Pumpa - das ist ja eine irre Geschichte. Wir haben auch noch ein Pumpe in der Straße, aber die sieht moderner aus. Hat wohl tatsächlich noch eine Funktion, denn sie wird gewartet.

Fun knitting! we have lots of lions head pumps in our village streets, but no longer working now that we all have indoor taps!
