April sun...

"To what purpose, April, do you return again?
Beauty is not enough.
You can no longer quiet me with the redness
Of little leaves opening stickily.
I know what I know.
The sun is hot on my neck as I observe
The spikes of the crocus.
The smell of the earth is good.
It is apparent that there is no death.
But what does that signify?
Not only under ground are the brains of men
Eaten by maggots.
Life in itself
Is nothing,
An empty cup, a flight of uncarpeted stairs.
It is not enough that yearly, down this hill,
April
Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers."

What a fantastic poem, Heike. I haven't seen that before. I love the last two lines.

it certainly is a fascinating texture. i like that vision - April babbling and strewing flowers. is your stitched piece babbling?

Hello + thanks... - no hummingbirds here in Berlin I´m sorry to report...;) - it´s an older piece hanging around there aimlessly, and no, it´s not babbling, I´d kick them out no matter what if they´d start babbling... - and yes, I like that poem too, spring indeed comes like an idiot, and makes one feel like one...

'April is the cruellest month', a sad poem. I don't relish the heat but a little bit of quiet sun is nice.

Yes it is... or would have been = the late April sun has been quite fierce here, and May starts with more sun plus thunder + lightning...

I feel angry with April this year. Ir has been even more idiot than previous years...

Yes indeed - glad I´m not the only one (and a very good May to you...)
